Thanks for nothing ** I'm having one of those days where, by 8:00, I'm staring at the clock wondering when I can go home. If only, if only they'd given us a half-day today. I am the queen of bad attitudes today.

Back in the saddle ** Well, I'm back for Day One of my 2-day work week. Heh. Las Vegas was very nice, actually. We had a great time with our friends, and made some time to wander around just the two of us as well. The road trip was uneventful and quite enjoyable (other than the 2 or 3 times when I really wasn't sure I was going to make it to the next rest stop). We stayed at the Luxor, which was a little better than I'd expected, and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, even Talmar, who was desperately ill with a head cold. I stayed away from her mostly. :-)

Anyway, we had yesterday off too, which gave me a nice chance to come back down to earth. We actually got back into town early Sunday evening, and while trying to find our dog at my dad's house, we discovered mostly everyone had gone to Chris and Mason's house for an early Thanksgiving dinner. It was a nice surprise to run into the tail-end of a little party, where we visited for a while, took some leftovers and our Princess and headed home for some much-needed sleep.

Today at work is a little odd. Something's out of whack here, and I'm not quite sure what. Most of it doesn't involve me, but what does irritates me. My associate has this knack of bitching about me when I'm gone. She's one of those people who makes anything a big deal, mostly things that definitely aren't. She wants to look like a hero or a saint, or both. She won't ever talk smack about me when I'm around (though she does revel in being condescending when she thinks she's knows something you don't), but boy! As soon as I'm out? Look out. Suddenly I'm an incompetent boob whose work must be taken to our boss to sort out. She then must tell everyone on our team how she had to go our boss on "all of [my] files." Further pressing (she's out at the moment for a couple of hours, so I can investigate freely) uncovers the truth. On one file, my assistant - who was too busy doing "urgent" work for my associate's files - didn't send a fax right away to a partner company, and that partner company complained that they hadn't gotten it from us promptly. Yep. That's a crisis all right. And in my absence, definitely my fault. Huh? Whatever. I'm just glad the truth is known by my other associates, my assistant and my boss. Whatever my idiot associate thinks she's accomplishing with this crap is beyond me. Still irritating though.

Meanwhile, Arizona state employees are watching over their shoulders this morning as the news is reporting Legislators slash 1,700 jobs. We knew this was coming (we have a horrendous budget crisis, thank you, Republicans), but it's unnerving nonetheless. Both my mother and my father work for the state, though my father's job looks far more precarious. At least he is eligible for early retirement already; my mother would be completely screwed. Please keep your fingers crossed for them!

Sorry for the long post. Had to get caught up! Glad to be back.
